There is no place on earth that holds my heart like Spring Arbor University. Student Development changed my life. They brought out potential that I did not know I even possessed. Many of them spent countless hours cultivating me and helping me grow as man and a leader. I worked hard, came out with minimal debt, and they helped me through my financially rough moments. I strongly recommend this university. God's presence is on that campus.
I am so impressed with Spring Arbor's ability to help me as a student. They really invest in the lives of each individual and I couldn't be more thankful for the people at that institution. I have grown so much as a student but also as a person here. I will forever value the relationships I have made here.
Over priced, over rated. The faculty an administration have the idea that if you don't tow the line and make them and their "school" look good, then you don't deserve to succeed. Everything you get here you can get elsewhere for half the cost or less. Their financial aid is a joke. Their support system for low to middle income families sending their students to this "school" is non existent. You are highly likely to either drop out or graduate with a massive amount of debt, all because they want a few extra dollars in their pocket. They could care less about your success or the values they claim to uphold. There is nothing good about what they do to their students financially. I graduated unprepared and unqualified for a working world but with such a massive debt that I had no other choice then to take available work and with the experience best described by saying "if you can make a buck off someone, use their faith to get every penny you can, while you can."
Spring Arbor is home to some of the best faculty you'll ever find at a small private school, but the administration was somewhat schizoid in its approach to running the school, and generally ineffective at communicating with non-traditional students. Additionally the tuition is a bit steep, though far from being the most expensive in the state, but the facilities are nice and relatively up to date, and the smaller class sizes allow for some pretty excellent interactions with actual professors, rather than TAs. I enjoyed my time at SAU and grew in my faith and as a person as a result. Sure, it's a flawed institution, but anything involving people is bound to be flawed, and there are faculty who are actively working to make it a better place than it currently is.
I love Spring Arbor. I got my degree in Video/Film there and made my first feature film the next year, with the help of the Communications Department. The campus just has a great feel and the professors are wonderful--my film professor Dorie Shelby was so invested in her students that it almost felt like having a second mother. SAU as a whole is so passionate about making a difference, and I love that. Great school, great Communications Department, great experience.
